Key position

The terminal is expected to be operational in 2020 and will further strengthen the position Deventer already holds in the Trans-European main network of rail, road and waterways (TEN-T). Deventer is set to be included in the BCTN network and to provide frequent service lines with Rotterdam and Antwerp.

Sustainable transport

With the construction of the new container terminal, BCTN and Vos Transport, together with the Port of Deventer, the local business community and the Provinces of Overijssel and Gelderland, are ready to give sustainable water transport a tremendous boost. The transfer facilities are important for companies from the Cleantech region, located within a 30-kilometre radius (the triangle Apeldoorn, Deventer, Zutphen).

Investments

Skippers, businesses, the business park management and the municipal aurhorities have prepared an elaborate plan of investment for the Port of Deventer. In addition to the development of container transhipment, the plan focuses on improvements to be made within and around the inner harbour, such as in lighting and signposting, Wi-Fi and the drinking water point. The plan is widely supported by the business community. Moreover, the provincial authorities of Gelderland and Overijssel have expressed their wish to further promote water transport and strongly endorse the development of the container terminal.
